Quality. Innovative. Mindful.

Millridge Companies is passionate about creating radiant, inspiring spaces while minimizing its impact on the environment, which is why our custom built Organic Recycling Center is directly under our umbrella of partners.

What’s the Big Deal?

Organic recycling refers to all activities that collect, process, and use organic waste derived materials. The fact is, organic materials comprise a huge portion of the solid waste generated in North Carolina including yard debris, biosolids, wood materials, food, manure and agriculture residues, land clearing debris, used paper, and mixed municipal organic waste.

In the past, these organic materials were either dumped in landfills or burned, wasting valuable resources and contributing to significant environmental problems. By working in collaboration with Organic Recycling Center, Millridge Companies is helping its communities reach their recycling goals while producing valuable recycled products.

The whole neighborhood benefits when organic materials are recycled. The valuable end products improve the quality of landscape materials, and have a positive impact on the environment by improving soil and plant health, conserving water, reducing erosion, and helping to minimize the use of fertilizers and pesticides. These products also replace other sources of wood for paper and fuel production.

Compost Improves Soil and Water

As experts in the landscaping industry, we understand that healthy soil provides a number of vital functions. It has the ability to store water and nutrients, regulate flow of water, and neutralize pollutants.

Millridge Companies is most concerned with providing you with the best in landscaping and service. We understand that the grading and clearing involved in landscaping can actually work against our ultimate goal by removing the native soil. This disturbance reduces the organic content in the soil, and declines the soil structure as well as the biological activity of the soil. All this results in poor water filtration and holding capacity. The truth is, when soil is unhealthy, management of healthy landscaping becomes dependent on application of herbicides and pesticides which also run off, damaging adjacent ecosystems.

Compost improves this soil structure and supplies it with a slow release of nutrients to plants. It also holds moisture and helps reduce erosion while immobilizing and degrading pollutants in the soil.

Millridge Companies sees value of organic recycling for a positive impact on the environment. By collecting organic materials and transporting them to our processing site, we are participating in creating a resource and economic development strategy for the area, as well as utilizing an effective waste management mechanism. Plus, we have access to the wonderful end result – high quality compost, mulches, and other recycled materials that can be used for landscaping and soil amendment purposes.
